Sesame oil is a plant‑based edible oil derived from sesame seeds. One of the oldest known crop oils, it’s popular across Asian, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisines for its flavour and versatility. Light sesame oil is made from raw seeds and has a neutral, mild taste suitable for cooking, while toasted sesame oil has a richer aroma and deep flavour used mainly as a finishing or seasoning oil.
Nutritional & Chemical Profile:
Sesame oil is primarily composed of unsaturated fats, including both monounsaturated (oleic) and polyunsaturated (linoleic) fatty acids, which are considered heart‑healthy. It contains antioxidant compounds such as sesamol, sesamin, and vitamin E. Although it doesn’t retain much protein or fibre from the seeds, these bioactive phytochemicals are responsible for many of its beneficial properties.
